ज्यादातर लोग ऐसा सोचते है कि अगर किसी की उम्र अधिक है तो वो कमजोर है या कुछ कर नही सकते है।परंतु ऐसा कहते है न कि शरीर मे बुढ़ापा आपको हरा नही सकता हैं जब तक आपका मन जवान हो।

एप्पल मैन का परिचय:-

74 वर्ष के इंद्र सिंह बिष्ट उत्तराखंड के बहुत सुंदर गांव झेलम में रहते है।यह पहाड़ी इलाका हैं।यहाँ चारो तरफ आपको पहाड़ ही दिखेंगे।परंतु इंद्र सिंह ने इस पथरीले जगह को सुंदर बागान में बदल दिया।

80 के दशक में इंद्र सिंह ने अपनी नौकरी छोड़ दी।वो सेना में थे जब इंद्र सिंह अपने गांव आयर तब उन्होंने अपने गांव में ही कुछ करने का सोचा।परंतु कुछ संजग नही आया कि क्या करें।

इंद्र सिंह 1983 में हिमाचल गए थे। वहाँ जब उन्होंने लाल-लाल सुंदर सेब पेड़ पर देखे तो उन्हें वह अत्यधिक खूबसूरत लगे। और उन्होंने आने गांव झेलम में सेब की खेती करने की सोची।

कर्ज लेकर की शुरुआत:-

इंद्र सिंह के पास तब पैसे नही थे तो उन्होंने 20 हज़ार रुपये कर्ज़ लेके अपनी 50 नाली में 100 सेब के पेड़ लगाए।

पहाड़ो पर खेती करना कितना कठिन है ये हम सब जानते है।परंतु फिर भी इंद्र सिंह अपने फैसले पर डटे रहे। और 10 सालों तक सेब के पेड़ों की देखभाल की ।उनकी मेहनत रंग लाई इसलिए आज हम सब उन्हें”एप्पल मैन”के नाम से संबोधित करते हैं।

लोगो के पलायन से आहत हो कर लिया ये फैसला:-

जब इंद्र सिंह सेना में थे तो प्रत्येक साल छह महीने के लिए गांव आते थे ।परंतु एक बार जब वो गांव आये टी उन्हें ये प्रतीत हुआ कि अधिकतर लोह गांव छोड़कर जा रहे हैं।

तब इंद्र सिंह ने सेब उगाने की सोची। इंद्र सिंह का सबने मज़ाक उड़ाया,उनका मनोबल तोड़ने की कोशिश की।लोगो को कहना था कि इस पथरीले जगह पे सेब कैसे उग सकते हैं।
और जब इंद्र सिंह छह माहींर बाद वापस चले जायेंगे तो इन पेड़ों की देखभाल कौन करेगा।

परंतु इंद्र सिंह को किसी बात से कोई फर्क नही पड़ा। उन्हीने 1988 से 1998 तक इन पेड़ों की देखभाल अपने जान से भी ज्यादा की।

नौकरी छोड़ने का फैसला लिया:-

सेब के पेड़ उगाने के लिए इंद्र सिंह ने अपनी नौकरी भी छोड़ दी।तथा बिना किसी केमिकल के इस्तेमाल से सेब उगाए थे। ये गांव वालो के लिए अविश्वसनीय था।

रिस्क लेके की सेबों की खेती:-

झेलम पहाड़ी इलाक़ा है और प्रकीर्तिक आपदये आना आम बात है यहाँ। इंद्र सिंह के लिए पेड़ो की देखभाल करना बहुत कठिन था।सब ने अंदर को चेताया भी परंतु इंद्र सिंह कहा मनाने वाले थे उन्होंने ठान लिया था कि गांव वालों के भ्रम को तोड़ना हैं। जिसके लिए उन्होंने 10 साल दिन रात मेहनत की और सफलता पाई।

सफलता का स्वाद चखा:-

10 साल बाद जब इंद्र सिंह के लगाए हुए पेड़ से फल आने लगे तब इंद्र सिंह की सारी मेहनत सफल हो गई। सेब की खेती से इंद्र सिंह को बहुत फायदा हुआ।इंद्र सिंह से प्रभावित होकर बाकी लोगो ने भी सेब की खेती शुरू की ये वही लोग है जो इंद्र सिंह का मज़ाक उड़ाते थे।

साथ ही साथ जो लोग गांव से पलायन कर रहे थे।रोजगार पाने के लिए वो लोग भी रुकने लगे।आज हज़ारो लोग इंद्र सिंह के दिखाए रास्ते पर चलकर मुनाफा कमा रहे है अपने ही गांव में रह के।

100 पेड़ो से की थी शुरुआत आज पूरा बगीचा हैं:-

आज के समय मे इंद्र सिंह के पास खुद का सेब का बगीचा हैं। इंद्र सिंह की सेबों की इतनी मांग है कि सीजन से पहले ही उनकी सेब की डिमांड पूरी हो जाती हैं। कभी-कभी तो इंद्र सिंगज को मना करना पड़ता हैं सेबों की डिमांड इतनी अत्यधिक होती है क्योंकि झेलम की सेब बहुत ही मिट्ठी होती हैं। जो हिमाचल और जम्मू और कश्मीर में उपजते है उससे।

इंद्र सिंह ने अपने बगीचे में रॉयल डेलिसिस, स्पर,गोल्डन,राइमर और हैरिसन कई तरह के सेब के प्रकार उपलब्ध हैं। इसके साथ ही साथ इंद्र सिंह ने नाशपाती और बादाम भी उपजाते है अच्छी आमदनी के लिए।

शुरुआत में इंद्र सिंह ने सेबों को लोकल मार्केट में बेचा। तब देहरादून, सहारनपुर धीरे-धीरे दिल्ली तक पहुँच गए इंद्र के सेब। इंद्र 100 क्विंटल सेबों का उत्पादन कर हर साल 8 से 10 लाख कमा रहे हैं।

इंद्र सिंह ने अपने गांव के पलायन को रोकने के लिए यह कदम उठाया था।आज ये सपना साकार हुआ इंद्र सिंह का।इंद्र सिंह के लिए ये बहुत कठिन था परंतु उनकी उम्र उनके दृढ़ निश्चय को हिला नह पाई। और आज इंद्र सिंह अपनी बागानी में सेबों की देखभाल करके बहुत खुश और संतुष्ट हैं।
