बचपन से लेकर आजतक हम यही देखते आ रहे हैं कि भारतीय करेंसी पर महात्मा गांधी का फोटो लगा रहता है। लेकिन कभी इस बारे में सोचा नहीं है और ना ही जानने की कोशिश की है कि आखिर महात्मा गांधी जिन्हें राष्ट्रपिता और बापू कहा जाता है, भारतीय करेंसी पर उन्हीं का फोटो क्यों लगाया जाता है।
आज इस लेख के माध्यम से हम आपकों यह जानकारी देने जा रहे हैं कि गांधी जी की फोटो पहली बार करेंसी पर कब आई और यह फोटो कहां की है।
आजादी के पहले भारतीय करेंसी (Indian Currency) पर किंग जॉर्ज की तस्वीर लगी थी, लेकिन आजादी के बाद भारत के देशवासी चाहते थे कि करेंसी पर महात्मा गांधी (Mahatma Gandhi) की फोटो लगे। इस बारे में फैसला लेने के लिए तत्कालीन सरकार को कुछ वक्त चाहिए था। उसी दौरान तत्कालीन सरकार ने भारतीय करेंसी से किंग जॉर्ज की तस्वीर को सारनाथ स्थित रॉयल कैपिटल से रिप्लेस कर दिया।
सन 1969 में स्मरण के तौर पर रिजर्व बैंक ने पहली बार ₹100 के नोट पर महात्मा गांधी की तस्वीर पेश किया था। नोटों पर उनकी तस्वीर के पीछे सेवाग्राम आश्रम की तस्वीर भी थी। लेकिन वर्तमान में करेंसी पर गांधीजी की मौजूदा तस्वीर पहली बार 1987 में छापे थे। स्माइली चेहरे के साथ महात्मा गांधी की इस तस्वीर के साथ सबसे पहले 500 रुपए के नोट को अक्तूबर 1987 में पेश किया गया था। उसके बाद गांधीजी की तस्वीर अन्य करेंसी नोटों पर भी छपने लगी।
साल 1996 में भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (RBI) ने एडीशनल फीचर्स के साथ पहली बार महात्मा गांधी सीरीज के नोट जारी किए थे। इस पिक्चर में वाटरमार्क, विंडोड सिक्योरिटी थ्रेड, लेटेंट इमेज और विजुअल हैंडीक्राफ्ट लोगों के लिए इंटेग्लियों फीचर्स सम्मिलित किया गया था। इससे पहले साल 1987 में राष्ट्रपिता गांधीजी की तस्वीर को वाटरमार्क के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया गया था।
वर्ष 1996 में महात्मा गांधी की तस्वीर लगी 5, 10, 20, 100, 500 और 1000 रुपए के नोट थे। उस दौरान अशोक स्तंभ की तस्वीर के जगह महात्मा गांधी की तस्वीर और नोट के बाई और निचले हिस्से पर अशोक स्तंभ की फोटो प्रिंट कर दी गई। उसी समय से लेकर अभी तक भारतीय करेंसी पर महात्मा गांधी की तस्वीर देखने को मिलती है।
नोट पर दिखने वाली महात्मा गांधी की तस्वीर कहां चली गई थी?
महात्मा गांधी (Mahatma Gandhi) की तस्वीर पूर्व वायसराय हाउस जो मौजूदा वक्त में राष्ट्रपति भवन है, में 1946 में खींची गई थी। महात्मा गांधी जब म्यांमार और भारत में ब्रिटिश सेक्रेटरी के रूप में कार्यरत फ्रेडरिक पेथिक लॉरेल से मुलाकात के लिए पहुंचे थे, वहीं उनकी यह तस्वीर ली गई थी। उसी फोटो को पोर्ट्रेट के रूप में भारतीय नोटों पर अंकित किया गया। हालांकि, यह तस्वीर किस फोटोग्राफर द्वारा ली गई थी इसकी जानकारी किसी को भी नहीं है।
साल 1949 में तत्कालीन सरकार ने अशोक स्तंभ की डिजाइन वाला एक रुपए का नोट पेश किया था उसके बाद सन् 1953 में नोटों पर हिंदी को उल्लिखित करना शुरू किया गया। 1000, 5000 और 10000 रुपए के नोटों को साल 1954 में रिइंट्रोड्यूस किया गया। उस दौरान ₹1000 के नोट पर ‘तंजोर मंदिर’, ₹5000 के नोट पर ‘गेटवे ऑफ इंडिया’ और ₹10000 के नोट पर ‘लायन कैपिटल’ और ‘अशोक स्तंभ’ की तस्वीर छपी हुई थी। हालांकि, साल 1978 में इन नोटों को बंद कर दिया गया। -picture of Mahatma Gandhi printed on Indian currency
