आपने कभी सोचा है कि भारत को अंग्रेजों से आजादी दिलाने के लिए कितने संघर्ष करने पड़े होंगे? आइए उन संघर्षों के बारे में जानते हैं। आपको बता दें कि भारत ने अपनी पहली लड़ाई 1857 ई. में लड़ी थी। इस क्रांति को Indian Mutiny, Sepoy Mutiny भी कहा जाता है।
किसने किया था आरंभ?
साल 1857 की क्रांति की शुरुआत 10 मई 1857 से आरंभ मानी जाती है। इस बगावत को मेरठ में अंग्रेजों की East India company में शामिल भारतीय सिपाहियों ने शुरू किया था। धीरे-धीरे यह बगावत देश के कई शहरों जैसे दिल्ली, आगरा, कानपुर और लखनऊ तक फैल गया। अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ यह बहुत बड़ी क्रांति थी परंतु इसमें असफलता ही मिली। बरसों से गुलामी की जंजीरों में जकड़े हुए हिंदुस्तानियों ने एक स्वर में हल्ला बोल किया परंतु आज़ादी नहीं मिली।
क्यों दी गई मंगल पांडे को फांसी?
मंगल पांडे (Mangal Pandey) ने मेरठ से पहले बैरकपुर में अंग्रेजी अफसरों पर हमला कर दिया था, जिस कारण उन्हें अप्रैल साल 1857 को सूली पर चढ़ा दिया गया था। अप्रैल में ही मेरठ के कई हिन्दुस्तानी सिपाहियों ने Enfield Cartridge का उपयोग ना करने का विचार किया, जिसके बाद उन्हें सलाखों के पीछे डाल दिया गया। इसके बाद ही 10 मई को एक ऐसी क्रांति की ज्वाला भड़की कि उसमें कई अंग्रेज जल कर भस्म हो गए और ना जाने कितने आजादी के दीवाने शहीद हो गए।
