विक्की नई दिल्ली रेलवे स्टेशन पर पानी की बोतलें इकट्ठा करके एक साल तक जीवित रहे। उसके बाद वे सूड़ा बीनने के साथ-साथ डिशवॉशर के रूप में भी काम करने लगे। लगभग एक साल बाद सलाम बालक ट्रस्ट नामक एक एनजीओ ने उनसे संपर्क किया और 18 साल की उम्र तक उन्हें अपनी शरण में रखा।
